The stamp sale held in Hong Kong on November 25 and 26 saw very strong
bidding throughout and brought a total realisation of HK$12,231,400 (£1,164,895).
Classic issues of China provided many outstanding items including a
previously unrecorded complete sheet of six of the 16ca scarlet,
printing 4, of the Shanghai local post Large Dragon issues (1868). It
fetched HK$230,000 (£21,905). It well superseded its estimate at
HK$60,000 to HK$100,000.
Another new discovery, from the provisional neutrality issues of 1912,
was the unique lower right corner block of nine of the $1 red and pale
rose, showing sheet number 131 and with the centre stamp having the
retouched 'one'. Only 156 copies of the basic stamp were issued. There
can be only three or four examples of the retouch. This superb block
produced HK$207,000 (£19,714).
