Sale of a collection of New Zealand stamps by the late Major Henry Dumas
CBE MC FRPSL in March 15 2000 realised a total of £531,650 against the
estimates of some £300,000. The collection was particularly noteworthy
for its complete range from pre-stamp to modern.
The highest price in the sale was achieved for the envelope of 1855 from
Auckland to England bearing two examples of the London printing 1d dull
carmine. It fetched £17,250. Only a handful of covers are known with two
examples of this very elusive stamp, compensating for the minor faults
affecting the stamps and the envelope. The estimate was £10,000 to
£12,000.Stamp Magazine |
