There are lots of activities this month particularly with Robert Siegel of New York who had many sales and plenty of top prices realized. The highest priced item sold in auction this month is a pair of USA 1908 4c brown with Schermack perforations.
Believed to be one of only two guide line pairs in existence, it fetched US$200,000. Harmers of London had a mail packing slip from the Titanic's mailbag. Its pre-sale estimate was £500 and it realized a whopping £11,763. In Spink's sale was a 1859 cover with a Modena Provisional Government issue. It fetched £59,800, 343% up from its pre-sale estimate of between £12,000 and £15,000. |
